  • noun A mark left on a piece of metal by a cutting-tool, when the latter is so adjusted that it alternately cuts and is forced back, thus cutting intermittently and making a chattering noise.
  • noun Irregular gouges made on surfaces over which a glacier passes, by the slipping of rock fragments held in the lower portion of the ice.
