- n. A name given to two compounds, C8H11O6Cl3, formed by the union of chloral and glucose. One is difficultly soluble in water, is tasteless, and melts at 230° C. The other is easily soluble, tastes bitter, and melts at 180° C. Chloralose is used as a hypnotic.
