  • noun In zoology, a flagellate cell in which a rim or collar of the cell-wall surrounds the base of the flagellum: a frequent condition of monadiform cells, whether belonging to the group of which the genus Monas is a representative or occurring elsewhere, as in sponges. See Choanoflagellata.
