1. A family of sea-spiders, of the order Pycnogonida (or Podosomata), typified by the genus Colossendeis, with the mandibles rudimentary or lacking, and palpi present. It is the largest family of the order. Some of the species measure nearly 2 feet across the outstretched legs.
