  • A family of alcyonarian polyps, of the order Alcyoniaceæ, having the ectoderm coriaceous and contractile, without sclerobase, and the individual animals connected by basal buds and root-like processes, instead of forming digitate or lobate masses as in the Alcyoniidæ.
