The table, of old English oak, stood ready covered with the finest linen; and a large portable court-cupboard was placed with the leaves of its embossed folding-doors displayed, showing the shelves within, decorated with a full display of plate and porcelain.
A court-cupboard would make a beautiful sideboard, and one of the long tables spoken of above would make an appropriate serving-table.
Often the lower part contained receptacles as in the characteristic English court-cupboard.
Away with the joint-stools, remove the court-cupboard, look to the plate.
