1. n. A genus of acanthopterygian fishes, typical of the family Dactylopteridæ, having the pectoral fins enormously enlarged and wing-like, and divided into two portions. D. volitans is the flying gurnard, also called flying-fish, a name shared by the members of another family, Exocætidæ. Cephalacanthus is a synonym.
