The difference and it is a huge one is that the scientific realm is a realm of disprovability and testability, so heliocentrism and creationism are wrong as science in a way that SWEEASTW and mystical scientism are not wrong as religions.
Scientists are trained to do their battles in public, with disprovability and reproducibility as guiding concepts.
Obviously it’s consistent to recognise the inherent disprovability of a deity, but at the same time to consider oneself, and label oneself, an atheist.
