- n. A name of the southern chimæra, Callorhynchus antarcticus: so called on account of the prolongation of the snout, which has a peculiar proboscis-like appendage, serving as a prehensile organ. It is an inhabitant of the southern Paciflc and the vicinity of the Cape of Good Hope, and is sometimes eaten.
