It's always difficult translating from Urdu/Hindi to English fanaa urdu - annihilation, but here means something else, I suppose.
If they were lucky, they would experience what is known in Sufism as fanaa, the annihilation of the lower self in the Divine.
The lyrics are by Sayeed Qadri and involve a railing at the gods and fate - sab hua ab to fanaa, bas raha baaki dhuaan, main gham se rishta jod ke jaoon kahan!
Neil totally rocked btw i thought hum tum was the weakest movie of the lot. he just made it into a worst type ... as much as i like Fanaa - comparing eye of the needle to fanaa is blasphemous. except for the ending ... what exactly is choreography? isnt it dependent on the dancing capability of the actors/actresses.
Here I am transported to the brilliant poetry of Mulla Ahmad Narraqi in his poetical masterpiece Mathnawiye Taaqdees when speaking about the great spiritual state of annihilation in God (al-fana fi Allah): In fanaaye bande dar mawla buwad (this is the annihilation of the servant in his Master); In fanaa az sad baqaa awla buwad (this annihilation is better than hundred kinds of subsistence); Fahme un khwaahi boro taa Karbala (if you would like to know the reality of this then go to Karbala) Mathnawiye Taaqdees, p.273.
