1. n. A superfamily of birds, the ant-thrush series or formicarioid passerines, a group of non-oscine Passeres, with tracheal syrinx and schizopelmous feet; the Tracheophonæ of authors. It is a large series of some 500 species, confined to the Neotropical region. Leading families are the Formicariidæ, Furnariidæ, Dendrocolaptidæ, Pteroptochidæ, etc.
