Definitions
from The Century Dictionary.
- noun A thermometer in which the variation of volume or tension of a fixed quantity of dry gas indicates the temperature of the latter. Hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and carbonic-acid gas-thermometers have been employed. The hydrogen gas-thermometer is considered as the normal, but all are reduced to the ideal gas-thermometer by theoretical formulas.
