1. n. A Cuvierian genus of cyprinoid fishes, of the family Cyprinidœ; the gudgeons proper, related to the carp, bream, bleak, roach, tench, etc., but not to the gobies (Gobiidœ). The common European gudgeon is Gobio fluviatilis.
