  • noun A member of a sect in the Netherlands founded about 1683 by the deposed clergyman Pontianus van Hattem, a Spinozist, who denied the expiatory sacrifice of Christ and the freedom of the will, and affirmed that sin exists only in the imagination, and is itself its only punishment. The sect disappeared in a few years.
