2. n. A notable genus of tenebrionine beetles with slender tarsi, sessile abdomen, and a coriaceous band over the labrum. H. micans is a beautifully striped bronzed species. Nearly 200 species are known, about 30 of them North American and the rest mainly European, though a few are found in Asia, North Africa, the Azores, Madeira, and Australia. Fabricius, 1775.
