- n. In mathematics, a plane curve described by the point of contact with the fixed plane of an ellipsoid, the center of which is fixed while the ellipsoid rolls upon the plane. It is a curve (commonly, but incorrectly, said to be wavy) circumscribed between two circles, and was invented by Poinsot.
