  1. n. The state or character of being heteromorphic; deviation from a type or norm, or from congruity. Specifically— In entomology, existence under different forms at successive stages of development: the result of transformation or metaboly. Thus, an insect exhibits heteromorphism when it is a pupa or larva, before it becomes an imago.
  2. n. In biology, the property of replacing lost parts by new parts which are different from those that have been lost. See heteromorphosis.
