Methanol is an inferior solvent for quick gradients due to it's viscosity (hydrogen bonding: donor and acceptor!) and generally does a shittier job, even with fancy additives such as 1,1,1,3,3,3, hexafluoroisopropanol to replace cheap old acetic acid.
