1. n. A genus of Devonian Brachiopoda which attained a large size. It is named from the singular resemblance of the cast of the ventral valve to the impression of a colt's foot. It belongs to the family Strophomenidæ, and is abundant in and very characteristic of the Oriskany sandstone of New York and the equivalent horizon in other regions.
