1. A group of fishes including eel-like forms which differ from true eels in having all the bones usually bounding the mouth—that is, well-developed intermaxillary as well as supramaxillary bones. It includes the families Symbranchidæ and Amphipnoidæ. By some ichthyologists it is ranked as an order and by others as a suborder of Apodes or Symbranchia.
