1. n. A genus of herbaceous plants, of the natural order Illecebraceæ, containing only one species, I. verticillatum, a native of the south of Europe and the north of Africa. It is a small prostrate branched annual, with small leaves growing in pairs, and axillary clusters of small white, shining flowers; it occurs in the southwest of England.
