Definitions
Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia
- n. One who or that which interchanges; specifically, in artificial ice-making, a tank containing a coil of pipes, or its equivalent, through which the brine cooled by the ice-machine, after extracting all the heat possible from the ice-molds in the ice-making tank, is caused to flow. Water placed in the interchanger in contact with the exterior surface of the coil is cooled preparatory to being placed in the molds for freezing it, thus increasing the economical efficiency of the apparatus.
- n. That part of an apparatus for the liquefaction of air wherein the compressed air is allowed to expand and is thus cooled to its point of liquefaction.
