- noun In New South Wales, a name of two or more species, all fishes of large size, as Sciæna antarctica and Glaucosoma hebraicum. Sciæna antarctica is the kingfish of the Melbourne market. Sciæna is called dewfish in Brisbane. It belongs to the family Sciænidæ. E. E. Morris, Austral English.
