  • noun In the southeastern United States, a swamp, or move commonly an area in a large swamp, in which the white cedar, Chamæcyparis thyoides, there called juniper, is the dominant tree. In the Dismal Swamp these areas are distinguished from the gum-swamps. See juniper.
