- n. Raphia tædigera, a palm which grows on the rich alluvial soil on the banks of the Lower Amazon and Pará rivers in Brazil. It has cylindrical leaf-stalks, which measure from 12 to 15 feet in length, and are used by the natives for a variety of purposes, as for the walls of houses and for baskets and boxes.
