  1. A pheasant of the genus Euplocamus and that section of the genus called Gallophasis, closely related to the silver-pheasants and firebacks. There are several species, such as E. albocristatus, E. melanotus, and E. horsfieldi, inhabiting the upper parts of India from the foothills to an elevation of 8,000 feet. They are noted for their pugnacity, and for making a drumming noise, but in general habits resemble other pheasants of the same genus. Also spelled kalij and calidge.
