  1. n. A badge or crest borne by the imperial family of Japan, consisting of an open chrysanthemum of sixteen rays conjoined and rounded at the outer extremities. It is frequently represented double—that is, sixteen other rays show from below in the interstices at the ends of the rays shown in the foreground.
