After all, what happens if the kindle's switched off? it'll have to sync when it gets powered up, the kindle app would work the exact same way. the more likely scenario (as sm4k pointed out above) is that the Kindle app has obviously been purposely crippled to separate the Kindle from the 'lite' app version. otherwise, there'd be no point in buying a kindle .. they're not going to give you full functionality with the app version as they'll need to see a return on hardware units to warrant the initial investment. this iPhone app is simply there to open up the market and provide increased exposure.
