1. n. A genus of gymnodont fishes of the family Tetrodontidæ; the rabbit-fishes. L. lævigatus is one of the largest species of the family, attaining a length of 3 feet; it is common in the Gulf of Mexico and West Indian waters, and is known as the tambor or smooth puffer. See cut under Tetrodontidæ.
