  • noun In the United States, negotiable paper issued by government, in pursuance of legislative donations, to individuals, companies, or communities, in reward for public services, or for the promotion of education or useful enterprises, entitling the holders to the possession of specified quantities of public land; also, similar paper issued by corporate bodies holding such donations.
