- n. A proteid substance found as a deposit in certain diseased organs and tissues of the body. It differs from other proteids in resisting the action of digestive fluids, and in coloring red with iodine alone, and violet or blue with iodine and sulphuric acid.
- n. biochemistry A protein found in tissues affected with amyloid degeneration. It is insoluble in nearly all reagents, is not acted upon by gastric juice, and is not readily subject to putrefaction.
