- n. A bed for growing potatoes, in which the potatoes are laid on the surface of the soil and covered with earth taken out from trenches on both sides. This mode of planting potatoes is now chiefly confined to Ireland, but was common in early Scottish husbandry. It is of practical use only for spade husbandry.
