  • noun A wedge-shaped bolt which in use is inserted like the shank of a lewis in a hole drilled in a stone, and fastened therein by pouring melted lead into the unoccupied part of the hole; an eye-bolt similarly inserted, and used, like a lewis, for lifting heavy stones. See cut under bolt.
