- n. A small Eurasian ornamental tree (Prunus mahaleb) of the rose family, having white flowers and small, ovoid, black drupes with single seeds that are used in Middle Eastern cooking.

- n. A species of cherry (Prumus Mahaleb) whose fruit affords a violet dye and a fermented liquor resembling kirschwasser. It is found in the middle and south of Europe. Its flowers and leaves are used by perfumers, and its wood by cabinet-makers. Tubes for tobacco-pipes, called
