• A superclass of craniate Vertebrata, or skulled vertebrates, distinguished by the development of the malleus as a bone of the ear, and by the direct articulation of the lower jaw to the skull. It corresponds to the class Mammalia, and contrasts with Quadratifera and Lyrifera.
