Did you perchance mean megaliths?
Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia
- n. A genus of large fossil ganoid fishes of Carboniferous age, established by Agassiz. Their remains occur in Devonian beds of Europe. By Günther the genus is referred to the family Saurodipteridæ, suborder Polypteroidei; by others to families called
Saurodipterinior Saurichthyidæ. It was characterized by large, smooth, but minutely punctured, enameled scales, some of which have been found 5 inches in diameter, indicating a fish of great size. The jaws were furnished with immense laniary teeth. Several species have been described from the Carboniferous strata of Scotland and England.
