• noun A large zoöid, or animal, as opposed to a small individual, or microzoöid, of the same species. Such mega- and microzoöids occur, for example, in the bellanimalcule, Vorticella. In this animal the microzoöids are formed as free-swimming buds by the large, pedunculate, and sessile megazoöids.
