The comb-duck or _nukta_ (_Sarcidiornis melanotus_), which looks more like a freak of some domesticated breed than one of nature's own creatures, makes, in July or August, a nest of grass and sticks in a hole in a tree or in the fork of a stout branch.

This monkey is one over which many naturalists have argued; it is synonymous with _Macacus speciosus_, _M. maurus_, _M. melanotus_, and was thought to be with _M. brunneus_ till Dr. Anderson placed the latter in a separate species on account of the non-annulation of its hair.

The ecoregion also supports important populations of another endangered lizard, Breyer’s long-tailed lizard (Tetradactylus breyeri), the main populations of two restricted-range lizards (Tetradactylus seps and Pseudocordylus melanotus), as well as two near-endemic geckos (Afroedura halli and A. nivaria).
