1. A subtribe of plants of the natural order Myrtaceæ, the myrtle family, typified by the genus Metrosidcros. It is characterized by many free stamens, arranged in one or many series, or connate in clusters, opposite the petals, myrtle-like or large and feather-veined leaves, and flowers almost always in corymbs or short racemes. It embraces 11 genera and about 60 species, which are found principally in Australia and New Caledonia.
