- In Latreille's system of classification, the nocturnal lepidopters proper, or the moths corresponding to the Linnean genus Phalæna, or to the modern Lepidoptera heterocera exclusive of the sphinxes and zygænids (or Crepuscularia). The group was divided into six sections, Bombycites, Noctuo-Bombycites, Noctuælites, Phalænites, Pyralites, and Pterophorites.
