• Noting an acid, a colorless compound of the acetic acid series, C₈H₁₇COOH, prepared by the hydrolysis of octyl cyanide. It melts at 12.5° C., boils at 253–254° C., and is probably identical with pelargonic acid prepared from oil of rue.
