1. n. In some ascidians, as the Doliolidæ, a foster form or nurse, which consists of a free-swimming sexually immature zoöid, having a ventrical outgrowth on which sexual zoöids, known as gonozoöids, are produced. Compare gonozoöid and trophozoöid.
