- n. A small fringilline bird of North America, Chrysomitris or Spinus pinus, commonly found in pine-woods. It is about 5 inches long, and entirely covered with pale or flaxen brown and dusky streaks, more or less tinged with yellow, especially on the wings and tail. The bill is very acute, the tail is emarginate, and the wings are pointed.
