  1. Exhibiting pleochroism. The epithet includes dichroic and trichroic. Also pleochromatic, pleochroöus, polychroic.
  2. Pleochroic halo or aureole a spot within a mineral (for example, biotite) characterized by strong pleochroism. Such spots are frequently observed in sections when examined under the microscope, and are usually immediately associated with microscopic inclusions.
