Definitions
Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia
- n. A game played with five ordinary dice, or with special dice having on their faces the A, K, Q, J, 10, 9 of any suit in a pack of cards. Any number can play, each in turn having three throws. After the first cast the player can take up and cast again as many of the five dice as he pleases, setting aside what he wishes to keep out. After setting aside what he wishes from the second throw he can cast the remaining dice again. He is not obliged to throw more than once or twice if he is satisfied with the cast so far. The best poker combination wins. In the eastern United States, when ordinary dice are used aces beat sixes, but in the western United States and in Australia aces are low.
