1. n. A form of polarimeter or saccharimeter devised by Wild. Its special feature is the use of a double calcite interference-plate, which produces, in monochromatic light, a set of parallel black lines or fringes, which disappear in a certain relative position of the polarizer and analyzer; this gives a delicate means of fixing the plane of polarization as rotated by the sugar solution under examination.
