In fact, the incidence of posttransfusion hepatitis has dropped from 1 in 20 just a few decades ago to an estimated 1 in 100,000 currently—in spite of the continued use of donor blood that is positive for HGV.
Thus, HGV does not appear to be a bona fide factor in causing posttransfusion hepatitis.
