  • noun A colorless crystalline substance, (OH)C6H3.C3H3N or 8-hydroxyquinoline, made synthetically. When cold it has the odor of saffron, but when heated it smells like phenol. It becomes yellow when dissolved in acids, alkalis, and dilute alcohol. It melts at 75–76° C.
