  1. Swiss G. rappen, a coin of Basel, of small value, bearing the impress of a raven, from Middle High German rappe, a coin first struck at Freiburg in Baden, with the head of a bird on it representing the Freiburg coat of arms, from rappe, a collateral form of rabe = English raven: see raven.
