  • A suborder of Lacertilia, or lizards, represented by the family Chamæleontidæ alone, characterized by the vermiform protrusile tongue, well-developed limbs, but no clavicle, pterygoid not reaching the quadrate bone, and nasal bones not bounding the nasal apertures: contrasted with Eriglossa. Also Rhiptoglossæ.
